ABSENCES
If your child will be absent from school please call the school at 717-885-1220. You may call anytime and leave a message on the answering machine.
When the student returns from being absent, they have 3 days to turn in a signed excuse blank. If the excuse is not turned in within 3 days, the absence will be unexcused.

After a student accumulates 3 unexcused absences, the school is responsible to:

Develop a Truancy Elimination Plan in partnership with the student and parent/guardian.
Notify the district magistrate and/or Children and Youth Services of all subsequent unexcused absences.

If a student accumulates 10 absences (excluding preapproved educational trips, death in family, or religious holidays), the school will require that all subsequent absences be excused by a physician.

TARDY
Your child is expected to arrive at school between 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. and in the classroom before 8:45 a.m. each day. Students arriving at 8:45 a.m. or later will be marked tardy unexcused unless arriving from a scheduled appointment with a note from doctor. Seven unexcused tardies will result in 1 unexcused absence from school.

If a student arrives late for any other reason it is considered tardy unexcused.   Any student arriving after 10:15 a.m. or leaving before 2:00 p.m.  will be considered a ½ day absence and will require a signed excuse card.

TRIPS
Students may be excused from school attendance for up to five (5) school days per year to participate in educational tours or trips when such trips are evaluated and approved by the school principal in advance.  The trip dates may be non-contiguous but cannot be taken within the first and last ten days of the school year, nor during standardized testing windows.  Forms are available on the District website or through the school office and must be submitted no less than two (2) weeks prior to the trip.
