PIAA requirements to coach in Pennsylvania


Annual Training:

Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training Courses to be completed each school year and completion certificates to be turned in to the Administrative Assistant to the AD prior to the beginning of the season.


Be sure to use each link as the courses are hosted on two different websites.


  1.  Coaches' Concussion Training Website

Log in –

  Select “Courses” at the top

    Search for “Concussion in Sports

      When you hover over the course, it will “gray out” and a white box will say “View Course” - click on “View Course”

        When the next window comes up, click on “Order Course”.

          Select “Myself” and “Continue”

            Select  “Pennsylvania” and “Checkout” (the cost is $0.00)

              Select Check “I agree…” box & select “Continue”

               A Receipt will show on the screen…



  Select “Dashboard” at the top

    Select “My Courses” on the left

      Select “Active”

        Select “Begin Course”


  2.  Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Training Website

        (If you were certified last year, you'll have to search for the current year course.)


One-Time Training:
The PIAA has passed the Coaching Certification Requirement.  

All paid and volunteer coaches of a PIAA member school must complete two courses (ASEP Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid Course) no later than June 30, 2018.  Coaches hired after July 1, 2016, will have two years from their date of hire to complete this requirement.
**Teachers will Receive Act 48  Credit for Completion

Course Exemption
If you have taken a college course that you believe would satisfy either of the Coaching Courses required by the PIAA, you must take the following steps.
  • Submit your College Transcript. (*Sports Specific Classes will not apply)
  • Along with your transcript attach a Course Description with the Title of the Course you feel would satisfy the requirement.
  • The Course and Description will be reviewed by the PIAA. Once reviewed they will provide us with a yes or no regarding exemption for the coaching course requirements.
Course Completion Options
Please complete the coursework online through NFHS.  Once course work is completed you will upload the certificate to the PIAA and notify Matt Marshall and Ms. Shelby Marks.
When ready to register for the courses please click on the course links below this will direct you to the website where you will enroll as a coach. 
There are two options for payment of the courses. 
1.) You can register for the class and submit payment, upon completion of the course and submitting your certificate you can provide me with the receipt and the school will reimburse you.
2.) You can register as a coach on NFHS, once completed e-mail Matt Marshall and request the test to be purchased. If choosing this option, please let Matt know by June 8th
If anyone has already completed the coursework in college or a grad class, that transcript will need to be upload to PIAA at which they will make a determination if it is accepted or not.

Tax Exempt Certificates

In order to obtain a tax exempt certificate to be exempt from paying sales tax, email the name and address of the company to Shelby at least 3 business days before it is needed. 



Uniform Collection

  • Coaches, it is your responsibility to collect uniforms at the end of the season.
  • Place uniforms in large clear bags which will be provided by Mr. Siple in your mailboxes.
  • Indicate the name of your sport on the bag.
  • Place the bag in your closet when all uniforms are collected and contact Mr. Siple.
  • Mr. Siple and his staff will wash and return the uniforms to the area from which they collected them.
  • Contact the office following uniform collection with the names of any students who did not turn in their uniform or parts of their uniform so obligations can be created.
  • Let the office know if you recieve any uniforms after obligations have been submitted.
